How to wear the new Leather Pencil Skirts!

Choosing and wearing a leather skirt is not a light hearted decision, but one that reflects your personality and suits your signature clothing. The classic straight or tulip curve hugging skirt can be worn in many different hem and waist lengths to achieve a variety of looks.  The pencil skirt first designed by Christian Dior in the late 1940′s has made a huge comeback – the difference is you will see them this season available not only in neutral but as well in bold colours. The ideal fit should hug the curves of the body yet it should have enough room and comfort to walk and sit easily.

In contrary to many rumours the pencil skirt is not versatile for many body shapes no matter how you accessorise it. You can change the tone by wearing a T-shirt versa a blouse, but it won’t change the rules about who can and who shouldn’t wear it.

Best practise for how to wear leather pencil skirts

It is not in its nature to provide a style fix, but instead to highlight your curves and put them in plain view. Since it is following your body shape it will either complement your curves or do the exact opposite.

  • Furthermore it is only a choice for women with great shaped legs. The rule of thumb is the narrower the skirt and the more style details it has the slimmer the leg shape must be in order to be put on display. The hemline of a pencil skirt can vary, but keep in mind the longer it is the longer the leg line must be in order to keep the theme and shape of the pencil skirt. Also not a style that will work well on plus sizes.
  • Another feature not to forget is the waistline of a pencil skirt.  Long waist lines and/ or busy details in the waist line can only worn by women who have a long waist. That means if you are short in waist then choose a low waist in your pencil skirt.
  • But above all it has to follow and complement your body line and shape. Leather is not a forgiving material. Wearing leather should fit and sit like your second skin!

Dress your feet in red boots!

Every woman should own a pair of red boots. Choose from ankle boots, calf boots, knee boots and over the knee boots. It is important that the boots you choose create a visual balance in your body shape and look. As well pick the heel that works for your calf size so that the calf doesn’t overpower the heel and makes it visually even bigger.

Coats for your Body shape!

Cold weather and the festive season coming closer we turn to our coats for making a fashion statement either in colour or style. Every coat has its own characteristics and needs to be matched to the right body shape in order to guarantee the right match and look visually balanced.  So, when choosing your coat make sure that the colour, style and shape works for you and not against you.  A coat is a coverup and it should fit and complement your silhouette like a glove. So, before you follow fashion trends know your body shape first and then go shop hunting. Don’t get sidetracked by falling in love with a coat style and look that doesn’t match your body shape or because your friends and colleagues love and wear them. Stay true to yourself ” dare to be different”.

Fashion comes and goes but Style is eternal! Yves Saint Laurent

1.  Inverted Triangle Body Shape

Coats that are “simple in style ” on top and get more dramatic from the waist line downwards. Hip details and and asymmetric hemlines or colour blocks are are ideal.

2. Lean Column Body shape

Clutter and details on top and lower part are best here. Oversized, double breasted and down coats are good for giving you a shaped waist and curves.

3. Rectangle Body shape

Create the illusion of a waist and roundness.  Single breasted  and asymmetric styles are great choices.

4. Apple Body Shape

Choose coats that have shoulder details and hang loosely fitted from the shoulders downwards.

5.  Pear Body Shape

Choose styles that keep details and attention to the top and go quieter downwards. Hooded styles, wide lapels and colours are ideal.

6. Neat Hourglass Body Shape

Choose what you like best since you can wear any style.

7. Full Hourglass Body shape

Opt for fitted styles that follow your body shape . Avoid any clutter – you don’t need it.
