I am going on a beach holiday and I will pack…

Finally! Beach holidays are coming closer by the day and panic settles in as to what to pack for a 2 week beach holiday.  Questions are pouring in like how many bikinis to pack and which cover ups mix and match with the bikinis you take? How many sunglasses are in order without overdoing it e.g. one for the beach, one for the pool, one for excursions and one of the road? Enough or too many? How many shoes  fit in one suitcase? Flip flops, ballerinas, sandals, gladiators, trainers- anything formal for the evening as well? What about bags? There are beach bags, clutches, handbags, shoulder back and possibly a rucksack to consider. Not to forget the hat wear everything from sun hats, to beach hats, caps and one for the road? But before getting totally excited about all the clothes you want to take, please check with airline what the maximum weight allowance is.

Once that is cleared make sure you choose the right suit case with its right capacity.

Joy of Clothes must have’s for the holidays:

Joy of Clothes packing Tips

  • Adaptors

Ensure you have the correct adaptors for your electricals and remember to pack all necessary chargers – camera, phone, shaver.

  • Clothes

Plan your outfits for each day and consider wearing the same item more than once to reduce your packing e.g. jeans can be worn to create a couple of outfits, as can a skirt or jumper.

Write down a list of outfits and lay them out to see it all together so it’s easy to eliminate if need be.

  • Shoes

Take flip flops, casual shoes or sandals, sneakers or walking shoes, and one pair of going out shoes. Wrap shoes in plastic bags so they don’t mark your clothes during transit.

  • Minimise on toiletries

Try and find travel-sized products as they reduce room and weight and pack toiletries in a sealed, waterproof bag in case of any accidental leakages.

  • Take a little first aid kit

Include anti nausea tablets, travel sickness tablets, headache tablets, bandaids, nail clippers, insect spray, sun cream and anything else specific to your destination or personal health.

  • Plastic Bags

Pack a few empty plastic bags to separate laundry or any wet items such as swimwear.

Cabin luggage packing tips

  • Pack your travel documents including passports, visas, money, insurance details, travellers cheques, tickets and vouchers and make sure they are secure in a travel wallet or a secure zip inside your bag.
  • Pack a copy of your passport and put in a separate place from your original e.g. in your check-in luggage.
  • Pack spare underwear and a spare top for long haul flights and in case your luggage is delayed or flight is delayed for long periods.
  • Pack socks and a jumper for the flight, as it can often get cold.
  • Take chewing gum on board as it helps with blocked ears.
  • Pack an inflatable travel pillow and earplugs for long haul trips.

Looking into the sunshine!

Yes, we can say now that the the season of white jackets, white jeans and sunglasses has arrived and we don’t have to be afraid to look overly eager to be seen first in these outfits, because the weather and the sun have not provided the necessary condition. But it is all ok now and we can kick it off!

As always the the best shape and style for sunglasses is about visual balance. So, when it comes down to choosing your sunglasses you need to know first what face shape you are and which glasses will complement it best. They should not only complement your face shape but should also represent your personality, life style and what is most fashionable. Today sunglasses have become a must have fashion and many times fashion doesn’t do them best.

The shape of your face will determine the shape of your frame. Remember, the different shapes come in various sizes and the scale of your face must also to be taken into account when choosing the size of your frame. That means your sunglasses size must be in proportion with your face size. This means that smaller sunglasses are better for smaller faces; larger sunglasses for larger faces. The rule here is  not to go with the shape of your face when choosing your best style of sunglasses but to go opposite of your face shape in order to create visual balance.

Oval

It is considered the best face shape as it has the most balanced proportions and can generally pull off any style of glasses. In order to keep its’ even proportions though, you may find that it is best to pick a frame that is as wide as or wider than the broadest part of the face.

Jay-Z's Official Madison Square Garden Concert After Party

Round

Choose a squarish frame shape which has the edges “knocked off” – softly angular, narrow frame or glasses with more width than depth give a more contoured shape. It will lengthen your face and make it appear thinner. Avoid any big round glasses, and keep the width equal to or wider than the broadest part of your face.

Moca New 30th Anniversary Gala

Rectangle Select a distinctive, wide, horizontal frame with some weight at the top and bottom and rounded sides or with decoration on the temples to add fullness and width to this narrow face. This is a face that is longer than it is wide and quite often will have a longer nose. To balance this out you may want to try glasses that sit lower on the bridge, which will help to shorten the nose.

Premiere Of Roadside Attractions & Echo Lake Entertainment's The Joneses

Pear Select frames with a broad horizontal line at the top (to give illusion of width at the eye area) and little or no heaviness to the rest of the frame. This will bring balance to the wide jaw-line.

Odd Molly Flagship Store Opening

Inverted Triangle To balance this out you may find it advisable to pick glasses that take the attention to the top rim of the frame, perhaps semi-rimless glasses on top and coloured or thicker frame on the bottom. Keep the volume and detail to the lower half and keep it discrete on the upper half.

Jennifer Love Hewitt Promotes Her Book in LA

Heart Select frames which give the illusion of fullness at the cheek area, that bring balance between forehead and chin. To balance this out you may find it advisable to pick glasses that take the attention to the top rim of the frame, perhaps a downswept frame that has outer dominant vertical lines. They will accentuate the breadth in the lower half of your face.

National Television Awards 2010 - Winners Boards

Diamond Opt for frames that give a straight look to the top and bottom, giving the illusion of width. It can also help if you pick light coloured frames or even rimless glasses.

The Actors Fund Annual Gala

Square Select a frame with not only straight horizontal lines to give the illusion of width, but also a narrow oval shape or anything with rounder, softer edges to give the illusion of roundness.

Guidelines for your face shape

Once you know your face shape it will give you guidance on which hat types and sunglassess work best for your face shape.  Again it is all about visual balance. When choosing hats and sunglasses for your face shape you want to go the opposite direction of the face shape you have. Meaning if you have  e.g.a round face you want to create the illusion of  “straightness, if you have a long face you want to shorten it visually, if you have a square face you want to add visually some roundness. Visual balance can be achieved by choosing the right shapes in hats, sunglasses, eyebrows, hair cuts and earrings. Please keep in mind that weight losss and gain will/can affect your face shape, which means you need to keep it current by having a hair style that reflects your current face shape.

Knowing your face shape is important because it is setting the tone for the rest of your outfit. Here are the charateristics of each face shape and some ideas for hats and sunglasses for each of the face shapes.

  • Oval oval

The oval face shape is the most balanced versatile face shape and gives you many options for hair styles, spectacles, eyebrows and earrings, because you are most flexible what you want to wear.  What a neat hourglass is to the body shapes  the oval shape is to the face shapes.
