Save the Date: Narciso Rodriguez exclusive limited collection for ebay on sale 02/15!

Award-winning American fashion designer Narciso Rodriguez makes history with his exclusive, new limited edition collection, available only on eBay.

From Michelle Obama’s black and red election night show stopper, to the sleek, bias cut sheath that captured the poignant beauty ofCarolyn Bessette-Kennedy on her wedding day, Narciso Rodriguez, one of America’s premier design talents, has risen to fame with his sleek, contemporary fashion looks that critics call “sensual, feminine and classic.

Since 1997, Rodriguez’s signature collection was previously only available at high-end department and specialty stores including Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys and Neiman Marcus. But, for spring 2010, a new capsule collection designed by Rodriguez will be available ONLY on eBay through the designer’s own eBay store. This is his first capsule collection, and eBay is his first online sales channel. http://stores.ebay.com/narcisorodriguez

The designer devised his new mini-eBay collection focusing on both fashion and function: “It’s a collection that has everything you need. You can wear it everywhere, and it’s an intelligent group of pieces that work independently or as an all-in-one look.”

The 8-piece Narciso Rodriguez for eBay Collection will offer fashion fiends a tremendous value with significantly lower price points than his traditional lines.

“I’m as excited about my eBay collection as I am about the ones that come down the runway,” says Rodriguez. “I can see people buying something from my main collection and wearing it with pieces from the eBay collection. It’s the same design and fabric quality.”

Narciso’s fan club of celebrities includes Sarah Jessica Parker, Jessica Alba, Claire Danes and Rachel Weisz, among others, and his styles often steal the show in films and on television, as well as the red carpet.

So get ready, fashionistas! This new collection arrives just in time for Spring 2010. Check back here and click here for updates.

Women who had an impact on fashion in the last decade!

Who would you give your vote  when you were asked who had the most impact on fashion in the last decade and how we wear it today? I don’t mean who was best dressed in the last decade but women who’s personal styles and signature looks translated into trends, inspired us to follow their lead, who pushed the agenda by wearing clothes in a fresh, innovative, modern,  new “kind of style”, or who were always true to their style by reflecting their understanding of dressing for their body shape, colouring, body features and “position but also kept it always current with fashion-simply being consistent and stylish.

This is Joy of Clothes list of women who we think had the most impact on fashion in the last decade and where we are and stand with their impact today in 2010. Each of them added their own uniqueness and personal interpretation of fashion and the rest is history! (The list is no particular order- each woman is equally important)

1. Kylie Minogue: Who brought back the ” the Disco fever” fashion trends. She is the ultimate ” Show Girl”!

Kylie Minogue

She inspired the hoodie trends in dresses,  brought back the-golden- pants ( her golden hotpants in her music video: ” Spinning around” reached iconic status”), the overknee boots and metallic look in clothes…just to point out a few. 2. The Queen:  Who sets an example how to dress right to any occasion!

She knows what works for her shape, which colours look great for which occasion and she always reflects that her fashion is in the moment. Her style is simply consistent, stylish and always appropriate.

3. Helen Mirren: With her figure and look she can give many youngsters a run for their money!

Even after she grew out the “Friends Haircut”, Jennifer was still well known as a trend setter for hairstyles. 7. Diane von Fuerstenberg:  A woman totally true to herself and that she translates into her clothes. “This ageing thing is really ridiculous. Sure, you don’t look the same, your waistline is different, your knees, but they are all souvenirs of living… I mean, if you are 75 with a young face, you are still 75.”

Shining Star!

Metallic’s have become a must in everyone’s  wardrobe and it is a great way to lift one’s outfit or mood at day or night. You can add shine by choosing clothes  in fabrics such as sequins, metallics, lurex, studs or jewels. Anything goes – even for the day.
KIIS FM's Jingle Ball 2009 - Show

The trick for the day is to keep it to a small amount where the purpose is more to lift’s ones complexion. It should be used more as an accent “colour” rather to make a “shining “impression.

The best way to wear “Glam” and “Flash” now is to wear just one shiny piece-small or big- at a time. Remember that metallics draw attention to whatever body part you wear it on, because the light reflection will grab attention. So, make sure you are highlighting a flattering part of your body otherwise you will just achieve the opposite of “Glam”.

It can be at times quite challenging to keep the choice appropriate for the occasion ,current and right for your body shape.

Here are the top 3 tips how to wear them:

  • Keep it current by accessorizing your metallic’s with the right clothing that will neutralise the shine, so nobody will have flash backs from “80ies” when seeing you. Metallic tops or trousers look great with knits, T-shirt and jeans- mix match your look rather going for matchy matchy! Click here for more info
  • Know your personal colouring when choosing between silver & gold metallics. It can badly clash when choosing the wrong metallics too close to your face. Click here for more info
  • Body shape! Don’t be fooled by the item because it looks so nice, or it is the latest or everyone wears and has it who is hip and in. Highlight body features that can take the lime light. Remember metallics need space to shine and breathe, but they will also add “volume” to the part in question. So, make sure it highlights the best of you where you can take the clutter, volume and glam. Click here for more info

Power Shoulders

Bold shoulders rule this season  in tops, blouses, jackets, coats and dresses. The new focus on a well- defined shoulder represents the season’s biggest shift in silhouette. Structured pieces, such as coats and jackets, come with sharp shoulder pads: exaggerated puffs and pagodas emphasise the look on dresses and blouses. We can thank Balmain and Balenciaga for the dress shape, which started this trend last season.

Here are some tips on how to wear it:

  • Power shoulders need focus! Therefore wear it only with a defined waist. Otherwise your look will lose focus and you will end up looking wide.
  • Power shoulders need an edge in your look otherwise you will look dated and it loses its cutting edge. Team it up e.g. with tailored pieces, or/ and statement skirt, leggings, tights, biker boots, ankle boots, biker boots, over the knee boots or add sophisticated accessories that underline and compliment the bolder shoulders rather bulking  them up.
  • Power shoulders add width to you look and height, so visually it shortens you.  So, the rule is the shorter you are, she smaller your shoulder pads should be and also wear your look tone in tone. Only the tall ones  among us can afford bulky shoulders and breaking the colour at the same time by adding colour blocks to their look. So, to be safe wear always a heel with power shoulders.

Power shoulders are a blessing for almost all body shapes, because they create structure, shape and focus to your silhouette.

  • rectangle bulletRectangle and lean column bullet Columns

Bold shoulders will help them to create the illusion of a waist

  • apple bulletApple and full hourglass bullet full hourglass

Bold shoulders will give them a more clutter free silhouette and visually ” less  round”.

  • pear bulletPear

A must trend for this body shape, because it is balancing effortlessly the lower half.

  • neat hourglass bulletNeat Houglass

This perfect proportioned silhouette can wear this trend as they like- the only think they have to keep in mind is their height.

  • Inverted Triangle

This trend is a big no no for this body shape. Inverted Triangle have already broader shoulders and don’t need to enhance it any further. Stay clear of this style trend.

Give. The new shopping venture from George Davies

George Davis is opening this Thursday his new shopping venture Give.  He aims to revolutionise the way we shop in stores.  Gone are the days where shop assistants are badly informed and  you have to wait for alterations. Inside every store will be knowledgeable style advisers  who can help you to put an outfit together no matter what the occasion. They will take your payment rather than sending you to till to queue and a team of tailors will be on hand in each store to make  alterations to ensure the perfect fit. His vision to provide clothes to women, which fit their body shape goes in line with our philosophy at Joy of Clothes. We want to help women to find the  clothes that fit their shapes, lifestyle and budget no matter what the occasion.  We designed Joy of Clothes so that you can easily browse through the collections and find fast what you are looking for. The New Bag League: Bags for Work

Here is your guide to the shapes, styles and labels to know now! Essential attributes of the work bag include plenty of interior pockets, sturdy handles, room enough to fit in a blackberry, A 4 file and laptop/netbook, make up bag and as well room enough for a pair of spare shoes. The new work bag embodies all of these must have attributes plus the new factors like design, personality, status, fashionable and light in weight. Practicality must be matched by aesthetic appeal inside and out- feminine but practical, and reliable for any occasion.

Here are comments and visions of leading designers what the “new bag for work” should represent in 2009/10:

  • ” Nowadays,  a woman needing a new bag is going to think very carefully about its function”. She may well only make one purchase, so it is going to have to fit every area of her life, from practicality at work to looking stylish in the evening. It needs to be decorative and desirable because it is more important than just a carrier for files or a laptop that she would previously have used alongside a smaller designer bag.”

Anya Hindmarch

  • “Discerning customers are looking for value now. They want a long-lived bag they can use day and night that’s practical, light when empty and not dangling useless hardware”

Marlin Yuson ( Cartier’s accessories creative director)

  • “Women now feel they don’t need two bags, but the one needs to be fabulous, as substantial bag that’s functional but glamorous, dressed up yet easy to wear and use. Confident women can find a distinctive bag helps to make an assertive style statement in a plain season. Clothes are reserved at present, so you need one item that’s little less serious , for contrast”.

Stuart Stockdale ( Jaeger’s design director)

  • ” Senior women feel increasingly free to be fashionable and feminine at work while still being taken seriously. A working bag has to be practical friend but a beautiful, highly crafted one is a also a symbol that reflects a woman’s personality and status in competitive world and, even more importantly, a confidence in her own style.”

Samantha Cameron (Smysthon’s creative director)

As always keep your body shape in mind when purchasing your new work bag.If you are a pear stay away from bright colours in your workbag and opt for darker colours. While if you are a rectangle or a column avoid square or boxy shapes and look out for oval shapes or bags, which have curve edges or cuvy details in their work bag. Apples and full hourglasses should be easy on to bulky work bag e.g. doctor style or too many front pockets- if you still go for them then choose them in a darker colour. Inverted triangle are better to choose handbags, cross body bags and if you choose shoulder bags make sure it doesn’t have much fuzz and buzz that would make your shoulers look even broader. As always neat hourglasses have the choice what ever they like to wear.

Wild Thing

It is a jungle out there! This season’s favourite are leopard and zebra prints. They are sleek, chic, multicoloured and come in many variations. Important rule is to mix it up and not to go overboard by dressing in prints from top to toe. My tip here:” Wear it with a sense of humour! They sum up your mood in quick style statement.” Prints can look sophisticated and can give an edge to your look, but too much of it and it will look cheap. So, keep in mind less is more.  Prints create attention and ” volume” to your body therefore choose the right item for your bodyshape. Since they come in many colour variations you should find as well the perfect match for your colouring.

Food for thought: There is no need to go for real fur to enjoy this trend.

Coco before Chanel- 2 trends are making a big comeback!

Coco Chanel wasn’t just a fashion designer – she was one of the very first fashion icons.

The summer fix for 2009 took inspiration from Coco Channel’s iconic fashion trends.

1. The Classic blue- and- white Breton stripe top

Inspired by the French sailors she used to see.”

“With white, one can never put a foot wrong.”

It is a fashion trend you don’t have to spend your wardrobe budget on-leave that to must have coats, jackets and denim jeans.   Secondly nothing says dressed down- chic so well. The stripy look  works  all year around. In summer pair it with shorts, ballerinas, cropped trousers or wear them with your summer dress, tops or bikini. Spin it for autumwinter by wearing stripes in your full length tights, over knee tights, cardigans or complement your stripes with coats and jackets.

2. The2.55 designer handbags

Coco Chanel introduced this bag in February 1955 (as in 2.55). Coco wanted a shoulder bag to free up her hands .The quilts were inspired by jackets worn by jockeys.

“The best colour in the whole world is the one looks good on you”

The affordable alternative you can find at Dorothy Perkins. This shoulder-style bag has the iconic gold signature turn lock hardware , chain plated strap and  quilted pattern.
