The Grammy Awards were held in Los Angeles last night, with big wins for Beyoncé and Taylor Swift.
Nevertheless I am feeling a bit disillusioned about the dress sense of most celebrities on that night. The Grammy is a place where I expect that musicians express their personality, identity, individuality and as well as creativity in their clothing- basically expressing what their music is all about. It is a place where all different type of musicans and their music come together, so you would expect all sorts of different people and outfits. Unfortunately that wasn’t at all the case. The Grammy Award reminded me more of a prom night that went wrong.
1. Lady Gaga
Loving the outfit. Besides that it works for her petite frame by keeping her outfit tone in tone- it is creative, true to her personality, identity, modern and right on fashion trend. Her look reminds one of a modern version of the “Statue of Liberty”. Her yellow hair in different wash is pure innovation. Lady Gaga is making every outing to a living performance- I guess she is Madonna ” of the new age”.
Overall Look: 5*****
2. Fergie
Great outfit for her and for this event. It is edgy, modern and still sophisticated. The dress style underlines her curves and elongates her petite height
Overall look: 5*****
3. Pink
The colour of this dress is fabulous for her and the outfit is so fashion forward. Nevertheless this look would have been more appropriate for her at the Oscars. At the Grammy’s I would have expected from Pink to wear this outfit either with Pink her or a great deal shorter or mix match it with a hot rock’n roll leather jacket. The outfit is missing a beat. Plus to be fine tuning this fitted waist dress is not ideal for someone who doesn’t have much of a waist.
Overall look: 4 ****
4. Katy Perry
Yes, this color is one of the upcoming colours for next season, but it doesn’t work for her. She is a clear in her dominant colour, so needs to wear contrast. This muted colour with its metallic embellishment is too much tone in tone and doesn’t balance back with her her and eye colour. It doesn’t do anything for her. Though the dress follows her silhouettte on her lower half it is lacking of curves, support and fit in her bust aera.
Overall Look: 2 **
5. Beyonce
It never stops surprising me how such an accomplished beautiful artist can get it always so right in her creative work and as well in her style and outifits on stage and videos, but as soon as you get her off stage…. . The colour of the dress is just not right for her complexion even though she went blond in her her- far too yellow as well. The colur is clashing with her skin. She is a pear in her body shape and therefore she is blessed with a great waist. Though the strong shoulders are balancing with her hips it is too figure hugging, too glossy and too much of the same style over again and again .The dress and look doesn’t to do her justice as a super star.
Overall look: 3***
6. Rhianna
Ah! As Lady Gaga Rhiana loves to make each outing to her stage Rhiana makes it to her catwalk. The white is totally wrong for her colouring- and biting with her hair colour on top. She is a deep in her colouring and light or pastel colours as solids are for those a nono. As Beyonce she is a pear shape and the rule is drama only top . The lower half has to be kept clutter free, which is here so not the case. Why do you want to add more volume with clutter to a body part that got already enough? Why do you want to bring attention, which is not your best part?
Overall Look: 1*
7. Miley Cyrus
How cool is she? The colour is super with her hair colour. The style is sexy, edgy and still girlie- a nice mix match, which gives her a natural look. The whole look is so right for the Grammy. The only non perfection is that this dress has too many layers in her waist line who is high waisted. It looks a bit cramped in that area since everything is coming there together like herhair, necklace and the layer of her dress.
Overall look: 5*****( She is young and therefore pulls it all off!)
8. Jennifer Lopez
Another woman who has a pear shape. The styling is all wrong for her shape. Volume, attention and drama has to be worn on top, the waist has to be highlighted ( which is her done) and distract with a look fit and style on your lower half. The lower half has to be a quiet affair. Her upper body looks good in that outfit and also her waist comes out nicely in that dress. But the hemline of the shorts are finishing at her fullest part and the long frock doesn’t create a beautiful shilouette on her thighs. Last not least the biggest drama and focus of the dress is on her thighs, which is the least flattering part of a pear. The colour combination of her dress is not bad but in such a style of dress just getting it more into the wrong.
Overall Look: 2**
9. Nicole Kidman
Black as a solid colour is most of the time not ideal for someone with red hair. But her dress is cut away at the shoulders and her hair pulled away. So, it creates a nice contrast. I love the neck feature on her long neck, but the Empire belt feature doesn’t work on her shape- a lean column. First of all because a belt has to sit in a waist and a lean column doesn’t have one. Secondly she is a very tall woman and doesn’t need to elongate her legs or her long waist any more. Empire styles are best left for short women or who have a fuller lower part. Also, the look is a bit too dressy for the Grammy’s- but this is on a personal note.
Overall Look: 3***
10. Taylor Swift
A super colour for the red carpet, for her complexion and as well occassion. Yes, the dress works well on her shape- thought it needs a bit more bust to go for sweatheart neckline. Also, I must say it is far too dressy for the Grammy’s, far too grown up for her young age and far too ageing. She looks beautiful but I dont think the dress does her youth justice and lacks the uniquness she displays in her music.
Overall look: 4****
Have a nice day,
