It was all a very British affair honouring British actors and actress in typical british weather. Though the red carpet fashion was a bit of a disappointment overall.
1. Anna Kendrick in Pucci
Colour: Beautiful colour choice for someone who is a warm in her dominant colour. The strong lemon colour complements her red hair but also gives contrast to her skin colour.
Body shape: It is all wrong. This dress has no fit on her body shape. Firstly it sits badly around her bust, secondly this dress needs a waist to create the desired look of the dress. Thirdly it has far too many layers for her short height. Her gladiator shoes are working with the theme of the dress but not for her short height since they are cutting away visually even more leg length.
Overall Look: 3 *** Her look is great but she is the poster board for the saying: Style is nothing without fit!
2. Kate Winslet in Stella McCartney
Colour: The new light hair colour works great with the black dress since she keeps it away from her face with her deep decoltee and sleeveless style.
Body shape: This is a first class act choice for a full hourglass. It underlines her curves at all the right places. The body shape doesn’t need any fuzz in their dresses because they already got the drama. The high waisted lace shows off her long waist but also creates almost the illusion of a bustier to highlight her bust.
Overall Look: 5***** It looks effortless, chic and sexy without looking tarty!
3. Gabourey Sidibe
Colour: She is a deep in her colouring and can’t wear a light colour as a solid colour in her dress. It is washing her out.
Body shape: She is a plus inverted triangle and it is simply cruel to dress her in such a dress. The fabric is far too delicate for her shape; her arms are exposed in an unflattering way and the dress is highlighting her broader shoulders rather visually balancing them out.
Overall look: 1* There are many other options for her available.
4. Audrey Tautou in Lanvin
Colour: The hot pink is a few ticks too light for her deep colouring, but loving the hotpink red combination.
Body shape: She is normally a neat hourglass but on this picture and in this dress she looks like if she dropped even a few dress sizes. She looks too thin and the dress volumes and drapes are overpowering her petite frame. Yes, they are meant to add volume to petite shapes in shoulders, bust and hips but due to their shapeless style they are walking a fine line to get the body shape to match it.
Overall Look: 4**** Too thin, but her style is still chic.
5. Romala Garai
Colour: Faboulous choice for her light colouring.
Body shape: This dress requires a bust, which is lacking a lean coloumn. But the fuller skirt gives her volume on her lower half and a waist definition.
Overall look: 4**** Her shoe heel is far too chunky for her thin calves, but they go with dress and styling theme. Loving her her and bright red lipstick. It is current, young and funky!
6. Carey Mulligan in Vionnet
Colour: Not ideal the black and white is so close to her face but her dark eyes are balacing the contrast.
Body shape: The shape is ideal for a lean hourglass. The boat neck and dropped sleeveline give her structure and shape on top. The floral print is not only a very in the moment choice but the patterns come out beautifully to play on her body shape. This is a dress made for women with a small bust. She has the legs for the drama in her skirt, but the hemline is left in front too long.
Overall look: 4**** Though in theory the shoes are a good style choice they prove to much for her legline. The long/short skirt combination is already shorting he leg line therefore a pump style shoe would have been a better choice than the ankle strap, which is cutting even further visually her legline. It is too much and too crowded.
7. Kathryn Bigelow
Colour: Too harsh with her colouring especially with her hair down.
Body shape: She is not only a neat hourglass in her body shape, but also she is long in her waist and is very leggy. She is one the fortunate women who got it all and therefore the dress is not playing up to it. The dress makes her beautiful long waist look too long, covers up too much of her shoulder and bust. The layers and horizontal colour blocks in her skirt are great for height, long legs and add roundness to her lower part.
Overall look: 2 ** The shoes choice make her not only look even longer but also are a very boring choice for the outfit and for her great figure. It feels like she is “under dressed” and underselling what she got. Doesn’t do her looks and brains justice.
8. Vera Farmiga in Marchesa
Colour: Works well for her colouring even more with her hair pulled back.
Body shape: This is a dress is works perfectly on her. It defines her waist and the drama on top is just right for her bust without overpowering the details in the dress. The one sholder show off her perfect her long neck gives her a beautiful shoulder line that balances with the longer hemline and train of the dress.
Overall look: 4**** Her styling is impecabble but too groomed for London. It is missing the edge and twist. Plus going for a white dress in London at this time of year is really pushing it. It feels all a bit out of place.
9. Claire Danes in Burberry
Colour: Colour of the dress blends in with her colouring and gives her a beautiful shine.
Body shape: No! This dress requires a bust and being tall with all its drapes especially on the lower half. The style makes it mandatory to have long legs to balance visually all the drapes that cover 2/3 of the dress. She has got the shoulders for the broaders strap and shehas got the waist, but this is not enough to make it work. The drapes work technically on her body but the whole style doesn’t come together.
Overall Look:2 ** Her hair style doesn’t work at all on her. It is too thin and the ends, which just underlines even more her longer body versus her short one. It looks all unbalanced and un proportional.
10. Kristen Stewart in Chanel
Colour: Far too light for her deep dominant colouring. But considering she is young it kind of works.
Body shape: Not ideal for inverted triangle body shape. Her skirt shape should be either more dramtic in colour or pattern or should be wider in shape in order to balance her broader shoulders. Plus this dress style doesn’t do her long waist any justice but instead makes it look even longer. Her smaller bust is not being supported enough in this dress and goes totally under.
Overall Look: 2 **She has a very charismatic angular face and her long waist, long legs , smaller lower half are left to their own devices. It looks like if it is all sizzling out fromtop to bottom. But I like her edgy hair style and the shoe style, which should have been ideally as well in different colour to shorten her leg line and to add colour and edge to her look.
11. Saoirse Ronan in Burberry
Colour: Looks super on her. The strapless style, her hairand the neutral belt is sofenting the the white.
Body shape: This dress with its drapes need a long waist to come out to play, which she is lacking. She is short high waisted and therefore doesn’t have a lot of room for waist definition. The drapes in her waist look cramped and they are as well too close to the draped bust line. The patterned belt is in size a good choice for her but not on top of that dress in her waist line, which is already crowded. The fullness of the skirt looks lovely on her petite legs and add drama to them.
Overall Look: 4****Her modern hairstyle complements the romantic style of dress and with her accessories gives it all an edgy look. Though her styling for her body shape is not perfect one has to consider her youth and that her shape will be filling out.
12. Anne Marie Duff in Alberta Feretti
Colour: Super choice. It makes her look vibrant.
Body shape: Picture perfect! The sleeve line gives her broader shoulders, the decolette shows off her bust, the Empire Style shows off her new gained curves, the fabric is playful around them but still defining enough to give her a beautiful shilouette.
Overall Look: 5*****Her hair style is making the dress less dress and her broches underlines her formes. Loving as well her ring and and hair clip that work altogether with her dress and broche.
Have a nice day,
Michaela
