The Golden Globe Awards 2010!

Despite the rain, the stars turned out in style to the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards 2010.  I must admit I was quite impressed overall with the dress style of most celebrities- far less misses than usual. Dressing for the red carpet is never easy affair- so much pressure too look right and you can’t hide from any flaws. It is so important to choose the dress right for your colouring, body shape, combining it with the right make up, hair do and finish it up with the right accessories such as jewellery, handbag and shoes. The whole look must all come together and work with every single detail. A lasting, one of kind look is always achieved when it looks current- in the moment- a look with a twist. Nothing is more dating than going for a look that has been seen and done before or boring when it is all matchy matchy. It is all about finding the right mix match that expresses the wearer’s personality and how she makes the look her own by creating signature look. If the wearer ticks all boxes then you got a winner.

I rated their look on 3 factors: Colour, Body shape and Overall Look ( one star is the lowest and 5 the highest score) See below who was wearing what and how.

1. Drew Barrymore in Atelier Versace

67th Annual Golden Globe Awards - Press Room
Colour: Works fantastic for her colouring.
Body shape: The details of her dress sit at the right places, go in the waist and show off a beautiful neat hourglas silhouette.
Overall Look:5 ******

2. Kate Winslet in Atelier Yves Saint Laurent

67th Annual Golden Globe Awards - Press Room
Colour: It works for her since she is wearing it away from her face.
Body shape: Look at her curves. It is perfection how she dresses for her body shape: full hourglass. No clutter- just simply curves. Just classy and beautiful!
Overall Look:  5*****

3. Sandra Bullock in Bottega Veneta

67th Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals
Colour: Purple is a good colour for her. I just don’t like the material of the dress. It looks cheap.
Body shape: It flatters beautiful her figure and shows  her beautiful legs.
Overall look: 4****

4. Jennifer Aniston in Valentino

The Pressroom at the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards!
Colour: Black- again- becomes a bit of a uniform for her. Boring!
Body shape: The dress works her body at the right places.
Overall Look: 1* ( the whole look doesn’t come together and doesn’t do the dress justice.)

5. Fergie in Elie Saab

67th Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals
Colour: The colour is current, but this violet pastel colour far to light for her. It washes her out.
Body shape: The dress shows off her long waist and the Empire line elongates her legline.
Overall Look: 3 *** ( Colour wrong, this style has been around the blog a few times)

6. Mariah Carey in Herve Leger

Golden Globe Awards 2010 - RED CARPET
Colour: Black is not best for her, but she works it by having low neckline, her hair pulled back and wearing black eyelashes.
Dress: One can’t argue it is not hugging her figure. The style of the dress creates the illusion of  a waistand the shoulder detail give her cury assets structure.
Overall look: 3 ***(It would have been better to drop the earrings, which are not good for her short/wide neck and better to place a chunky broche in her decoltee line- so, that her decoltee would have been more covered up and give it all a more classy than tacky look)

7. Jennifer Garner in Atelier Versace

67th Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals
Colour: No! Far too light for her colouring. Washes her completed out.
Body shape: The top and the bottom work for her shape, but not the middle. This not a dressfor someone  who doesn’t have much of a waist.
Overall look: 2** ( I love her hair though- gives is a nice modern twist)

8. Marion Cotillard in Christian Dior

67th Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals
Colour: Fantastic this rich green colour on her! Works great with the red carpet and the glossy fabric just makes her shine.
Body shape: The dress works on her neat hourglass like a dream. Its details don’t sit only at the right places but also  they are all proportional to each other. So, it gives her a beautiful balanced shape.
Overall: 5****** ( Simply chic !
9. Anna Kendrick in Marchesa

Golden Globe Awards 2010 - RED CARPET
Colour: Beautiful choice for her complexion and hair colour.
Body shape: The dress works all the right angle and the clutter on her decotee line works beautifu on her bust line.
Overall look: 3*** ( The whole look is far too old to her. It suitable for a 40 year old, but not for a young girl/woman. This is a crime to style someone so young in such a old Hollywood Glamour style- it should have had an updated, fresh style that would have been appropiate for her and also to make it all current- honestly I didn’t recognise her.)

10. Heidi Klum in Roberto Cavalli

Heidi Klum arrives at the 67th annual Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills
Colour: Super choice for her colouring and in new tune with next fashion season.
Body shape: This dress can only be worn by someone who is tall and has nice bust to balance the bottom half with the upper. It fits like a glove.
Overall look: 5***** ( Fabulous: her soft make up and hair do takes out the seriousnes out of the dress. She makes it look young, fresh, modern …it just looks effortless)

11. Julianne Moore in Balenciaga

Julianne Moore arrives at the 67th annual Golden Globe Awards
Colour: Good choice for red hair.
Body shape: The upper half doesn’t work on her shoulder, decotee line and bust. It simply doesn fit one reason is that she is too flat chested to give the dress shape and the seam of the dress is coming and going, which is not how it should be.
Overall Look: 1* ( Her hair and earrings are stunning, but it is a wrong choice for this dress. This dress needs edge and attitude and not nice and prettines. It just doesn’t work at all)

12. Calista Flockhart in Alberta Ferretti

Golden Globe Awards 2010 - RED CARPET
Colour: She makes the shiny white work by keeping it away from her face and wearing a pony tail.
Body shape: The delicate fabric works for her elfin shape and its  pattern add some roundness to it.
Overall look: 4****( The ponytail give the look a modern twist)

12. Kate Hudson in Marchesa

Kate Hudson arrives at the 67th annual Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills
Colour: Always a good choice for a light.
Body shape: All very wrong. It is quite obvious that she is too small to carry off all the details and drama of the dress. Such a dress needs space to breathe. It looks very cramped on her.
Overall Look: 4**** ( Her hairstyle, make up and accessories make up for a lot!!)

13. Nicole Kidman

Nicole Kidman appears backstage at the 67th annual Golden Globe Awards
Colour: Nice- works well on her porcelain skin and red hair.
Body shape: This dress gives her a waist where is none and soft roundness to her shape. All the details come out to play because she has the lenght to pull it off. On anyone slightly shorter it would have looked straight cramped.
Overall look: 4**** ( Pretty- all the elements of her look complement each other, but the wow effect is missing)
14. Cameron Diaz in Alexander Mc Queen

Cameron Diaz arrives at the 67th annual Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills
Colour: Great choice.
Body shape: What a perfect choice in dress. She is a lean coloumn in her body shape and the style of the dress gives the illusion of having a waist, gives her structure and shoulders.
Overall Look: 3***( How dissapointing. Every single detail of her look seems to be unconnected. The shoes don’t come together with her jewellery, her jewellery not with her lipstick and her lipstick with hair and her hair with her shoes! There is simply no connection in it!)

15. Sophia Loren in Armani Privé

Golden Globe Awards 2010 - PRESS ROOM
Colour: You can tell she is a professional! The black is not only kept away from her face but also the neutral sleevline creates a barrier between her face and the dress. The silver sequin keeps it fresh and uplifting
Body shape: Respect to have such a body at 76! The simple line of the dress compliment beautifully her full hourglass shape. The sleeveline give her structure and cover perfectly her arms.
Overall look: 5 *****World class.  She still can give young actresses a run for their money.

16. Penelope Cruz in Armani Privé

Golden Globe Awards 2010 - RED CARPET
Colour: Black is her colour and looks always stylish on her.
Body shape: This figure hugging number is showing her beautiful neat hourglass figure.
Overall look: 4****Her hairstyle gives a soft touch to this elegant retro dress.  The jewellery choice is a safe choice and therefore the vavum effect is missing)
17. Glenn Close

Red Carpet Arrivals for the 67th Annual Golden GlobesColour: Black is for sure a good colour for her.

Body shape: Unfortunately this figure hugging dress doesn’t play up to her strength. Her chest is flattened and the mid waist cut shows her tummy- all not a good look. Plus a woman her age should never ever wear an evening gown without covering up her arms. Especially at such an event where so many young women are showing off their flawless skin.

Overall look: 1* ( The dress makes her look shapeless and her hairstyle looks mumsy)

18. Courtney Cox in Victoria Beckham

67th Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals

Colour: A ” Clear” can’t go wrong by wearing black.

Body shape: The dress looks awesome on her and the fit of it is magnificent. Every single details sits where it should be and all looks proportional. I must hand it to Victoria Beckham- she does know how to give structure and shape to a dress.

Overall look: 5*****( Courtney’s hairstyle adds sofnesss and feminity to this elegant dress. Her choice of earrings bring the whole look together.Nice)

19.Felicity Huffman

Golden Globe Awards 2010 - RED CARPET
Colour: The vintage halterneck gives substance to this pale pink dress.
Body shape: Every single inch drapes where it should drape and give shape where it should. The cut gives her a beautiful silhouette and the halterneck underline her toned arms.
Overall Look: 4****( All works together in harmony except her make up- it really kills it for me- it is too heavy)

15. Julia Roberts in Vintage Yves Saint Lauren

Red Carpet Arrivals for the 67th Annual Golden Globes

Colour: Black is not the best colour in her colour palette. But her long neck and the necklace somehow pulls it off- kindish.

Body shape: The loose fitted dress accentuates her figure.

Overall Look:3***( Firstly- I think a knee length dress is the wrong choice for such an occasion, secondly feels like being from the last season rather being fashion forward and thirdly she looks half dressed in this outfit- the tights are missing and would have given a nice touch to this outfit.

16. Helen Mirren in Armani Privé

Red Carpet Arrivals for the 67th Annual Golden Globes
Colour: Yes, black is great colour for cools.

Body shape: Another actress who understands how to dress her curves. It shows all her best features without adding unnecessary bulk to her figure.

Overall Look:  3***( She does right in covering up her arms, but her choice in her jewellery and hair cut makes it look all a bit dull)

17. Leona Lewis in Roberto Cavalli

Red Carpet Arrivals for the 67th Annual Golden Globes
Colour: No- that doesn’t work. It is biting with her skin tone and her hair colour.
Body shape: She has a pear shape figure and therefore she and all of her shape must avoid figure hugging dresses. It stretches unflatteringly over your mum and thighs. Plus it underlines that you bigger on the bottom than on top. It looks unproportional.
Overall Look: 3***( Her beauty makes up for a lot)
18. Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta

67th Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals
Colour: Black seems to have been the favourite colour of the evening and it works on her like a dream.
Body shape: The dress gives her beautiful silhouette on top and as well on the bottom. It looks all balanced.
Overall look: 4****( Her look is too serious, far too old for her.  Her look is lacking current features- instead it has more of a governess style approach.
19. Emily Blunt in Dolce &Gabbana

67th Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals
Colour: Not ideal for her personal colouring. It is too light and therfore her head seems to be diconnected from the dress.
Body shape: It is not the best choice for some who doesn’t have much of a waist. The mid waist doesn’t go in – in the waist, but instead highlights its straightness.
Overall look: 3***( Her hairstyle and accessiores are adding a modern touch and making up for a lot)
20. Chloe Sevigny in Valentino

67th Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals
Colour: The soft pale violet is the best on the dress.
Body shape: No that dress is not working on her body and scale. It has not only far too many details on top but also the size of the drapes are causing  the dress to overpower her. This dress is designed to be worn by a tall woman with a long waist and a long neck. The drapes on top of her decotee line are far too close her head and clutter near her neck.
Overall look: 2**( She keeps her accessories in tone, so it is not breaking her even further down in height)
21.Maggie Gyllenhaal in RM Roland Mouret

67th Annual Golden Globe Awards - Press Room
Colour: One of her best colour in her colour palette and very fashion forward in view of next season
Body shape: A wonderful choice for a lean coloumn who are petite in their frame and small busted. The dress’s layers don’t add bulk but instead nice curves to her small frame and the fabric details that emerges from her waist and work their way up, down and around her waist create the illusion of a bigger waist.  Because of her long neckline the one shoulder piece comes out to shine at its best.
Overall look: 5*****( She lets’ the dress do the talking and keeping her hair pulled back puts the one shoulder details to center stage)
22. Christina Aguilera

67th Annual Golden Globe Awards - Press Room
Colour: The pale pink/ silver gown works great for her almost planitinum hair colour.
Body shape: She is a petite neat hourglass, because of her height. This dress with it’s top bodice
wouldn’t settle for anything than perfect proportion in the body shape. You need a long neckline to make it look proprotional, you need a bust to put into shape, you need a long waist to let the all the details come out to play.
Overall look: 4**** ( Her casual hairstyle tunes down the dress and makes it look modern and fresh. The spoiling factor is the far too long hemline of the dress. It is kept longer to give her more height but it achieves the opposite instead.
23. Halle Berry in Kaufman Franco

Golden Globe Awards 2010 - PRESS ROOM
Colour: For sure a great colour for her. The plunge neckline, lace lines and the fabric softens it perfectly for her colouring.
Body shape: Never being afraid of being daring this figure hugging dress highlights too much her lower half with its details, which not the way to go for a pear. The cap shoulder fail to balance with her broader bottom half.
Overall look: 3*** ( The dress reminds me too much of a negligee, but her hair style, jewellery and beauty make good a lot)
24. Diane Kruger in Christian Lacroix

67th Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals
Colour: Pretty in fuchsia – one of the biggest colours for next season.
Body shape: Another dress which works best on a neat hourglass.  The asymmetric voluminous shoulder line gives her a perfect round frame, her long waist creates focus and balance with the dresses details. Her height pulls its all into proportion.
Overall look: 5*****( Keeping her hair, her make up natural and accessoires suttle makes her whole look pretty rather turning it to kitsch)

So who is your personal favourites on who got the styling right?

My top 3 are Drew Barrymore, Diane Kruger and Heidi Klum, because they integrated what is next in fashion with a current, modern a feminine touch by making their dress and look their own.

Have a nice day,

Michaela
